Trichology and Hair Transplantation
Hair transplantation
Patologias frequentemente observadas e tratadas
How it works
1
Observation and clinical history
The consultation starts with the story of the hair loss: when it began, how it evolved, family history, medication and general health.
2
Trichoscopy and tests
Pull test, eyebrow-to-hairline measurement, manual or digital dermoscopy/trichoscopy and, when needed, blood tests, microbiological examination or scalp biopsy.
3
Diagnosis and plan
Hair disease has many causes — the plan is set case by case, from medical treatment to transplantation, or a combination of both.
4
Treatment and follow-up
Regular follow-up allows the treatment to be adjusted and progress measured with digital trichoscopy.
Medical treatment
Drug treatments
Topical, oral or injectable — minoxidil, finasteride, intralesional corticosteroids, among others — chosen according to the diagnosis.
Scalp mesotherapy
Micro-injections of medication into the scalp, in a clinical setting, to stimulate the follicle.
Hair PRP
The patient's own platelet-rich plasma, applied to the scalp to stimulate existing hair.
Hair transplant
The transplant is performed entirely by Prof. Dr. Manuel with his nursing team, at the Centre for Dermatology and Hair Transplantation — at Mutual Clinic Braga and, on Tuesdays, at Mutual Clinic Arcozelo. The FUE technique (follicular unit extraction) harvests follicular units one by one, with no linear scar, and implants them where coverage is needed.
Combining topical and oral dermatological treatment with the transplant achieves better results, both immediately and long-term.
