Discoid lupus erythematosus
A chronic cutaneous form of lupus with well-defined, scaly and atrophic plaques that are made worse by the sun — on the scalp it causes scarring alopecia.
It requires strict sun protection and dermatological treatment to prevent permanent scarring.
