Vitiligo

An autoimmune condition in which the skin loses its melanocytes (the pigment cells), forming well-defined white patches. It is neither contagious nor dangerous, but it can have a considerable personal impact.

There are treatments that halt progression and encourage repigmentation, with better results when started early. Sun protection of the depigmented areas is essential.
