Acute and chronic urticaria

It appears as weals (raised lesions like a nettle sting) that move from place to place within hours, with itching. The acute form lasts days and is often reactive; the chronic form persists for more than six weeks.

In chronic urticaria a food allergy is rarely found — appropriate assessment and treatment avoid unnecessary restrictions and keep symptoms under control.
