Pruritus

This is the medical term for itching. When it persists, it is a symptom — not a disease — and may originate in the skin (dryness, eczema, urticaria) or from internal causes.

Itching that lasts more than a few weeks, without obvious lesions or that worsens at night, warrants medical assessment to look for the underlying cause.
