Irritant contact eczema
This results from direct, repeated damage to the skin by irritants — detergents, disinfectants, excessive soap and water. It is very common on the hands, in occupations involving frequent washing.
It can be distinguished from allergic eczema during the consultation. Protection (gloves, barrier creams) and treatment of the inflammation allow the skin to recover.
