Excision with direct closure

Complete surgical removal of a lesion, with adequate margins, closing the skin with direct suturing — the cornerstone technique of dermatological surgery.

Performed under local anaesthetic; the specimen is always sent for histological analysis, and the stitches are usually removed after one to two weeks.
